Slasher Risk – Split C24

Brooklyn noise superstars Slasher Risk part ways for a moment to create two starkly different forays into the solo world as part of the face-off series. This tape showcases their insane versatility and virtuosity.
Dick Liberty, aka Sara Cavic, puts forth seven songs ranging from beautiful ballads to serious jamz more akin to Negativeland than Slasher Risk’s blown-out psychedelia. Each song lives in it’s own complex emotional world that moves fluidly (and unnoticeably) from deep longing to spazzy indecisiveness. All-in-all, an amazing portrait of emotion captured in seven distinct movements.
Andy Borsz’s side also couldn’t be more different from his violent, and occasionally bloody, guitar, drum and vocal destruction. On this tape, Andy takes us to church with a contemplative organ drone piece. For 11 minutes, it alludes to a destination, but never arrives… but it’s all good and you’re happy just to have been a part of the journey.
Overall, this tape is a gem and represents something special. It’s a 24 minute escape into a thoroughly nuanced and subtle world of complexity.
